Backpacking is the only way to see some of the most spectacular parts of this wonderfully scenic region, and Deep Desert Expeditions offers guided journeys for those who enjoy the security and confidence of traveling with an expert.
We invite you to join us for a single night, or twenty nights, in Canyonlands National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, the Grand Staircase/Escalante NM and the surrounding areas; we customize each and every trip to fit your needs.
Deep Desert Expedition’s Signature Tour: a six-night, seven-day adventurous guided backpacking journey that traverses the wild lands of the Needles District of Canyonlands National Park. This strenuous 50-mile route starts high on a ponderosa-pine covered ridge before following a deep, archeologically rich sandstone canyon for a few days, visiting such sites as the Big Ruin and Angel Arch and drinking spring-fed water. Leaving the canyon behind via a steep ladder in a tight crack, the route now alternates between canyon and high ridges with surreal views, taking in Chesler Park before heading down to the Colorado River, just below its confluence with the Green River in an 1800-foot deep canyon. The journey culminates with a scenic 50-mile long jet boat ride back to Moab.* $1975/first person $975 each additional person.
First timer/family backpacking: a single night learning trip for those who’ve never before hoisted a pack on their backs and just want to see what backpacking is all about. We supply everything you need for the journey except clothes and personal items, your guide will help you pick a site and set up camp, and even cook dinner! $750 covers two, $250 each additional person.
Our backpacking trips include all food and transportation from Moab to trailheads and back, all of our menus are planned to best accommodate your dietary needs. Water may be gathered from natural sources.
*boat rides are contracted with permitted river outfitters.
